From the original syllabus for COMM415:

Determination of Final Semester Grade:

· Weekly assignments. Weekly assignments will be given a letter grade according to the grading criteria outlined below. They may be critiqued and discussed in class as time allows.

· Personal assignments.

o Write 1 feature length article of 1500+ words 15%

o Edit 2 feature length articles of 1500+ words (15% each) 30%

o Weekly Assignments and skill drills 10%

· Group assignments. Design, layout, and edit an issue of vignette magazine.

o Group project 30%

o Class project and class participation 15%

(Note: there is no final exam)

Total grade 100%

Revised expectations:

Determination of Final Semester Grade:


· Personal assignments.

o Write 1 feature length article of 1500+/- words, either for Langley Advance
or your group’s magazine
15%

~ Write 1 short feature article for your group’s magazine 10%

o Edit 1 feature length article of 1500+/- words (assigned) 20%

~ Edit 1 short feature article of less than 1000 words (chosen) 15%


· Group assignments. Design, layout, and edit an issue of vignette magazine, using principles found in Creative Editing.

o Group project 30%

o Attendance and class participation 10%

    Refer also to the revised deadline schedule.

    Let me know if you write and/or edit more than 1 additional piece each.

    Peer edits should include copy-editing, but should also include narrative advice of a more substantive nature, perhaps story editing, heads and deck heads, etc.

    Submit edited copy to your writer and to me, either electronic versions (track changes in MSWord), or photocopies of hard copy edits.
